What a nice design!
I received my Daylight wafer today, and put it to use right away. The unit is completely sealed (no access to LEDs- if this is a concern), and the drawing surface is smooth and seamless all the way to the rulers along the edge. The on/off/dimming switch is touch sensitive which *might* be a problem if one positions the switch near the drawing hand- but so far no issues for me. The unit is thin- I measured it at 7.5mm and it easily slips between the pages of a book to trace an image. It stayed cool to the touch for the duration of use and I had it on for about an hour. The bottom has 5 foam rubber dots to keep the light wafer from sliding across the table. A very nice addition to my tools!

Would a printed pattern show through dark fabric, as would be used in Sashiko, a Japanese embroidery with white stitching usually on dark fabric?
Answer :
It would depend on the thickness of the dark fabric whether or not you could see the pattern through it. Pin your pattern to the back of the fabric drape it over the light shade With the light on and see if you can see the pattern enough to trace it that will tell you whether or not a lightbox will work for you. Otherwise you will be using chalk paper and a stylus to transfer the pattern onto the dark fabric. And that’s only one of several ways to do it

Can this light box be powered by a source other than AC? For example, portable battery or usb?
Answer :
Our AC adapter is rated at 12v and 1 amp. A USB port is only 5 volts and 0.5 amps and will not due. You can have a custom wiring rig with compatible plug and generic battery holder with two 6 volt lantern batteries that can work but will likely void any warranty. Any homemade option is risky.
If you are traveling in a vehicle, a car to power outlet adapter would work fine with the light box provided adapter.

I use this lightbox only for tracing photos to paint. The light seems even throughtout the panel to me.
