Excellent Value & Highly Accurate

Excellent device! Very accurate and was great for testing window tint UV blockage as well as the amount of UV coming into regular windows throughout the day. Small, portable and very easy to use. I highly recommend it.

Simple and quick to use, very small and portable

I'll start off saying that sometimes I can be, er, unobservant. I tend to not read instructions at first. Just dive in. The battery door is held in place with a locking mechanism that requires a button press to release. I did not notice the button and could not slide the door off. I finally pried it open with a screwdriver. *Then* I noticed the button. Nothing was damaged except my pride, attesting to the ruggedness of the door latch. WHY it needs a lock, I have no idea.

I have a couple of UV-A/B meters, including one where the sensor is separate and connected by a cable. Which design is better for you really depends on where you're using the meter, but is something to consider. If the light reading is in a more cramped or hard to reach area, you can extend just the sensor and have the display easily accessible. But you trade off size and durability (I've had the cables go bad after time.) If you perform a lot of UV-A/B measurements, eventually you'll probably wind up with both styles - compact all-in-one units like this Extech UV505, and one with a separate sensor.

The all-in-one is my preferred style because I can stick it in a pocket, small tool bag pouch (I found that the cell phone pocket works well). The Extech UV505 includes a decent holster/pouch with top flap and belt loop. You can hang it from a tool bag shoulder strap, belt, etc. or just toss it in a toolbox/bag.

The screen is easy to read and slightly below the face of the unit, so if you rest it face down on a surface you won't scratch it. There's a sensor cover that protects the sensor and blocks light to make zero-ing out the meter quick and easy. Overall build quality is good, but it is all plastic with no bumpers - a drop from a few feet onto concrete could be a problem. There's also a 1/4-20 tripod thread on the back. 2 AAA batteries are also included (they're in the bottom of the holster!) There's a loop for a lanyard, but no lanyard is included.

I don't have a lab to test accuracy, but it reads the same as my other two meters.

EASY TO USE, AND PORTABLE

If you're looking for something to tell you how much sunscreen to put on, just put on the sunscreen anyway. If you need to measure the amount of light coming through a window, or coming from your headlight, or trying to find the correct angle to point a solar panel, this is the meter for you.

PROS
--Small enough to carry with you, and you can attach it to your belt or carry in your pocket. There's also a hook to carry it on a lanyard, but the lanyard isn't included.
--Screen is large and bright, easy to read in bright sunlight
--A standard 1/4-20 threaded hole lets you attach it to a tripod.
--Batteries included.
--Freeze button lets you lock in a reading.

CONS
--You can only store one reading, not several at a time

Quality UVA/UVB light meter

Regardless of your application, this is a high-quality pocket UVA/UVB meter at an excellent price point. There are many industrial/scientific uses for a UV tester, but my focus is for calibrating the UV lighting in a 3D printer. Other industries and areas this might be used are for UV curing, like in dental labs, disinfection at labs or medical facilities, photolithography, etc.

What I like about it:
The freeze button allows you to lock in the reading before you turn away from the light source. You can zero the display before measurement before taking measurements.
You can select a range of units
What I don't like:
It doesn't have a way to store readings. Not a dealbreaker, as I only need to use this occasionally, but other applications may benefit from this feature if they use the meter more frequently.

East to use and Appears accurate

It is made very well, comes with a case and tether attached cover to the sensor. Several decades ago such handheld test instruments were so expensive and more limited in range. UV from some of one's interior light sources can deteriorate photos and paintings. The source of the light and make a big difference. This instrument can help evaluate your individual sources. I have 16x20 precious photos that did not have UV filtering glass that have deteriorated a lot over the years due to my lighting sources. You can us outside as well. Outside I positioned my prescription eyeglasses over the sensor and UV filtering of my glasses was significant. NICE Product!

Does what it says it does

This meter measures the type of light that commonly causes sunburns, etc. I admit I'm at a loss for a more sophisticated use for the meter but have used it to check the efficiency of my car-tint and house windows. I burn quite easily.

The device itself is well made, compact, easy to use, and no doubt will stand for years of abuse in my toolbox.

A very nice, pocket-sized light meter. Quick readings and very easy to use.

Excellent device. Simplicity itself to operate. It’s data logging features really work exceptionally well too. That’s important with UV because it’s time and intensity that impact the exposure scoring.
