bright, versatile, capable

There's a whole lotta light in this little unit, just waiting to get out. Excellent size, output, and versatility. I have both the standard AD200 and the PRO versions and I do like the indexed mounting system for the PRO much better than the standard version's simple 1/4-20 attachment. The PRO attaches to the supplied mounting bracket with 1/4 -20 as well, but the bracket has two little nubs that lock into the body of the strobe so that it does no have the chance of slipping loose on the bracket. Using the bare bulb head in a reflector or soft box is great, as is using it simply bare. The Fresnel head is exactly as it appears, a rectangular flash head like on a speedlight but with the addition of a dim, cold LED modeling light. Can't really use it as a modeling light but it can be helpful in seeing somewhat in really dark setting. I only mention my disappointment with the modeling light because I have the V1 speedlight and was thoroughly impressed with the LED on that unit, although I really don't use it much and I would have been totally happy with the V1 without a modeling light, I did expect a similar quality of light from the AD200 Fresnel head. Maybe that will come on future revisions. Enough about that modeling light, if you are considering purchasing an AD200 PRO, you are most likely more interested in how much light it produces and the portability. For size, portability, and communication with the V1 speedlight or one of the Godox triggers, these little units are amazing! Being able to control the AD200 PRO with the Godox flash already on your camera is incredibly convenient. The light output is predictable, precise, clean, and sufficient for a huge variety of situations. The accessories I have used feel like quality and perform quite well also. You can't go wrong purchasing a couple of these!

Giving up on Canon speedlites and switching over to these Godox units

For a speedlite that's basically the same size as my existing Canon EX600rt and EX580's this packs way more punch, has much faster recycle and longer battery life with it's Lithium-Ion battery in addition to multiple head/light options allowing me to pair it with various modifiers and really make the most of this super portable light. In either manual or TTL mode it has so far (only a month so far) provided fantastic consistent color and triggering.
For the last 5+ years my flash on location solution has been Canon speedlites with PocketWizard triggers (FlexTTL5/6) which has been good enough, but the Godox solution is simpler with a significant improvement to number of flashes (The AD200's battery seems to last forever) and recycle time between flashes (much faster than the Canon).
I'm very happy with this and can't see myself going back.

My second unit

I have the original version and wanted a second unit for more lighting options. So naturally I went with the pro version this time and couldn’t be happier. They say it’s more color accurate, but I haven’t really noticed too much of a difference. It uses the same battery as the original version. Are usually pair it with a soft box and an S bracket. Or are use the extension cord and put it on a camera strobe bracket do use it as a speed light

Awesome portable strobe with modeling lamp

This strobe is fantastic. It can be used free standing, on a light stand, with a light box, and with multiple head options. The battery lasts a long time and when paired with the optional on camera trigger it is exceptionally versatile and powerful. Great for portraits and use at wedding receptions where you don't want to drag around huge lighting setups.

Round head attachment and gels are available, which makes it even more versatile. You can toss two of these in your camera bag and have super high quality lighting on the go.

Great light!

I use this strobe in conjunction with an Explor 600 to shoot real estate interiors. It's great when my small Godox strobe isn't enought but the 600 is overkill. Only downside, it doesn't have an attachable stand to set it on surfaces. Still, great portable flash....really long battery life.

GODOX AD200Pro AD200 Pro with BD-07 Barn Door Honeycomb Grid 4 Color Filter Kit, Standard Reflector with Soft Diffuser, 200W 2.4G Flash Strobe, 1/8000 HSS, 500 Full Power Flashes, 0.01-2.1s Recycling

Question & Answer

Question :

What’s the size is the beauty dish ? I’m looking for honeycomb grid for the unit

Answer :

Here's what I did: Purchase a type S bracket to hold the unit, it has a built in Bowens mount. Once you have the standard Bowens mount, you can get a matched set of reflectors to honeycombs, they tend to come in roughly standard sizes. I would suggest a protective storage box for your honeycombs as they tend to get jacked up when traveling free in a bag.

Question :

Would this fit a Westcott Softbox?

Answer :

Yes, if the Westcott Softbox has a Bowens mount, then you need the Godox S2 Speedlite Bracket for Bowens ($25 at B&H). Works like a charm with the AD200Pro fitting into the bracket and then mounted on the softbox. I highly recommend the AD200Pro and the bracket, as well as all the other Godox gear, especially the X1 radio transceivers.

Question :

Is it best to buy the adorama rebranded version of this “flashpoint”because it’s warranty is handled by an american vs in china. .

Answer :

If you buy godox, you have to ship it to China for service. That will definitely take longer.
