A real treasure of a movie, please see it.

I have shown this movie to my classes in psychology and the students love it. It is a great source of discussion and self-consideration for my students and for myself too. I especially like the fellow who peddles a rickshaw and with his family lives in a shanty. But the guy finds happiness in everything that he is doing and living. The part that failed to express "Happy" was the story of early deaths in Japan from young men who worked themselves to death. This was discussed as not a single case, but there is a self-help group for widows of such men. They tried to balance this with a story of another part of Japan where living to very old age is the norm. This seems to be due to the people living true to their ancestral norms. So the modern ways can kill you early, but the old ways can keep you alive and happy.

I finally bought the dvd because Amazon no longer carries the film on digital Prime. Too bad, it was more convenient in that format.

refund requested

Amazon Prime was not playing this video so I purchased it. Now it is saying it is available on Prime. Can I get refunded? Other than that, it is a great film. I show it to my group therapy clients every few months. Irritated about paying for something that is now showing as free.

Happiness comes from within

I've always known that the most important things in life are the relationships we develop. Happiness is derived from those relationships and the love, compassion, kindness we show rather than what others can do for us. I enjoyed the psychological discussions as well as the slice of life vignettes from around world in so many different cultures that show just how people attain happiness in their lives. Excellent documentary for personal and educational use.

This Documentary Made Me Happy :)

This documentary made me happy. I had a busy week and thought a mindless movie would do the trick. Turns out it didn't. So I decided, I'll try again. After watching this documentary, I felt way better. My time wasn't wasted and I was learning. I guess learning new things is my "flow" :-).

A good movie to help humans get a reality check.

This movie will help those who need to get a reality check and positive perspective on life. Good for all ages but the very young (a small clip with surgery photos that some may find too graphic). Real people and real lives and how to look at the positive side to be happy.

Do you want to be happy?

I would recommend anyone who wants to be happy watch this video. It turns out that the U.S. is not the happiest place on earth... far from it. I learned a lot about what true happiness is and how to change my life in order to have it. The DVD is fascinating and inspiring.

Don't miss this

I've seen this documentary over 10 times and have recommended it to many of my clients (I've been a psychologist almost 30 years) as the best introduction to understanding human happiness (hint: it's NOT what most of us have been taught in this culture). Well done and mixes research with profiles of happy people around the world. If you have any interest in increasing your own happiness ( and who doesn't?) give this a viewing and put into practice the things you'll learn. Truly a gift to all of us!

Happy made me experience BEING happy

this is an amazing and profound film. As a Psychologist, I see patients weekly who come in for depression, anxiety, etc...
i do take into consideration their genetic propensity for depression (50%) but the other 40% is distorted cognitions created by the patients inherited from their parents, environs, culture and our social messages.
This documentary expertly challenges the distortions, and displays evidence that happiness is NOT related to money, fame, status,
but is related to self-growth, inner peace, compassion for self/others, relationships and community.
A very moving film that I will recommend to each of my patients.

Who Knew there was so much research for happiness.
It does appear that humanity creates endless ways to find happiness.
It is the soul that seeks relationship with specific tasks and people to fulfill
Its purpose here on earth. The intellect can never satisfy the soul. For the body
Serves the mind....the mind serves spirit and spirit serves our creator. This is where
You find happiness...just like the documentary said....in serving something greater
Than yourself.

Great Documentary!

Such a well-rounded and introspective look at what happiness means across cultures. Made you really think about the importance of counting your blessings and knowing the difference between momentary happiness versus true joy and contentment. I walked away thinking about how human beings are as flawed as they are beautiful. This is a must watch for sure!
