Initial impressions of the KobraTech Apex A70 Tripod
I just opened the package and have no working experience with the product as of yet. However, thus far I like the tripod because it is American Made, quite sturdy, lightweight, easy to setup, and provides lots of options for the user. It comes with a carrying case and looks and feels very professional. It was quite easy to pair my cell phone up with the remote shutter and take a few pictures. One pleasant surprise was an inclinometer to help you determine if the tri-pod is perfectly level. Lastly, if one registers with KobraTech they will receive a free 2 year extended warranty.
I do not have any dislikes but am curious about the purpose of the pop up button on the quick release plates. This is why I am giving it 4 out of 5 stars for Ease of Use. It appears to be spring loaded and without any pressure it will be up. If someone screws the cell phone mount onto the quick release plate and tightens it all the way down, then it would appear somewhat difficult to remove the cell phone mount. This is because the cell phone mount base is hollowed out with grooves. Perhaps that is the intent, but I would not think that is what someone would want. I am considering either taping or gluing the quick release plate's pop up button down. Hopefully another reviewer or someone from KobraTech can provide clarity on this design point because I'd really like to know why it is there. Other than that the product appears solid and I would recommend it without reservations.

I love how robust and sturdy it is, for the price it’s quite a bargain as it’s so versatile for my phone or camera as it has universal mounts. The bag for carrying is ok but the actual stand is a great deal. Pan head lock free spins and the pan is moderately loose. Any idea if there’s a problem with the twist handle stripping or am I missing something?

The camera bolt on the plate which attaches to the camera must be very snug or it will get loose, the camera can get loose and move and be a problem when you use it. I have to re-tighten mine frequently. If the pan handle that loosens and tightens will not tighten I would ask for a warranty exchange or refund

I couldn't find the release plate that they have but Manfrotto makes a version. I use it on my pripods for my DSLRs. You can find them at BHPhoto. Search their site for “Quick Change Rectangular Plate Adapter”

No however the battery can easily be replaced. It uses a CR2032 lithium battery.
