Great product

Originally bought this lens cap for a 70-200mm lens. It fit the lens perfectly; however, it was a very tight fit putting the lens into it's case. My 24-70mm lens did not have a lens cap and it took the same diameter as the 70-200mm. So, I ordered a side pinch cap (which is thinner) for the 70-200mm and used this one on the 24-70mm. Worked out perfectly. Would definitely recommend purchasing a side pinch cap for 70-200mm lens if you want to put the lens into the case that usually comes with it.

Faster and Easier

I really didn't pay much attention to lens caps until I jumped into DSLR video. I know many pro shooters are not fond of lens caps, preferring speed of run and shoot but still, I like to keep thousands of dollars of lens protected when not in use.

And its a good thing I did, because a few months ago after a long trip, late-night return, I grabbed my camera bag ( Tamrac 5788 Evolution 8 Photo/Laptop Sling Backpack Bag (Black) ) and tossed it to my shoulder anxious to get in the door. For the first time in my life, one of my lens, my favorite (135mm) went crashing to the ground in the dark because a side pouch was not secured.

#%@#%(#*@#%! At first glance, all looked okay. Upon further review inside and in the morning, the lens cap took a direct hit and broke. Not a single mark on the lens - pure luck of the fall.

Which led me to this quick, center pinch replacement. Totally converted now and have replaced all my caps to center-pinch Canon caps.

For one, with the video, I shoot with a teleprompter glass/hood. Reaching into the hood to grab the old caps (sometimes it sits here for days, so I cap them) - a pain to find and release. Pinch-caps, no problem.

Also, shooting with lens hoods (stills/videos) and now a large matte box (videos) is it SO much easier to reach into the center and pinch/pull.

All other things being equal, I have to say - I think these center-pinch caps even look better, they look more rugged (although probably not) and they look more serious.

Whatever your reason or your need, you won't be disappointed in these genuine Canon caps.

Pitch all your old caps

I'm glad that Canon has moved over to this type of cap on their lenses—they're that much better than the old edge-pinch type that it's worth replacing them, especially on glass you care about. I always worried about dragging the edge of the lens cap across the glass with the old edge-pinch ones, especially when using lens hoods. This eliminates that issue altogether since you pinch and lift. Only slight downside is it's slightly thicker than the old type.

Spend the $10 and be done with it!

Perfect fit for my Canon Lens

I seldom lose stuff. But at a race track, action is hectic and last weekend, as I was packing up, I discovered I had lost a lens cap. Meh ... Of course I went to Amazon. Found the right cap. Ordered it. Two days later, it was in the mailbox - gotta love that.

Canon makes great stuff. Including simple things like lens caps.

Actual Canon

Good service. Shipping on time. Product was Canon as advertised. Others used the Canon picture but ship knock offs. I had these ordered from Canon for a couple of months but canceled due to back order.
The pinch feature is great for the professional lenses being used with lens hoods.
Good product and highly recommended.

Lens Cap Mark II

Your photos will get 100% better by buying these Canon authentic lens caps. You just can't do without.

On a more serious note... these protect the most valuable asset in your camera bag. Your glass!

Do you have to have them? No.
Can you do without? Yes.
Are you more likely to put your lens caps back on your lenses when you're done? Probably Not. (old habits die hard).
Are these overpriced? What Canon product isn't? (and don't say the thrifty fifty)

FYI: These are thicker than the previous lens caps. At least double in thickness. Something to factor when thinking of camera bag logistics.

New lens cap thickness: .42 inches total, about 0.3 inches when attached

Purchased a new lens and once I experienced how much nicer these were, I splurged and bought some for my other lenses. All in all, my lenses look much more luxurious now :)

Now if only I could figure out what to do with my old lens caps...

Premium replacement

Replaced the lens cap I lost for my Canon lenses. As expected. Also use it on my 77 mm large format lens since that was received without a lens cap. Awesome stuff. I always liked the good Canon lens caps as opposed to the generic/off-brand discount caps. ProMaster: I'm looking at you.

It's a lens cap...

It says Canon on it. It works, way better than the older models where you put your thumbs on the side of cap. the levers in the middle make it much easier to get lens cap on and off especially when the lens hood is on.

Less Likely to Get Knocked Off...

The original lens cap for my 24-105mmL lens got knocked off in a dark parking lot on a rainy night, and I couldn't find it anywhere. After 6+ years of owning various DSLR cameras/lenses, this is the first time I've lost a lens cap - misplaced temporarily, but never before permanently lost !

I was surprised at the price for genuine Canon replacement lens caps and did some comparison shopping, but was leery of buying a third party cap due to issues with fit and finish. This pinch-on type of cap seems to fit more snugly with a noticeable click when it is properly attached, so it seems less likely to get knocked off if I bump the lens on something. The fit and finish is quite nice, and it fits perfectly on my favorite lens.

Perfect cap for my needs. No more fiddling with the lens hood to remove/put on the cap.

As luck would have it, I found my original lens cap the day after I ordered this one. But, this is a keeper. The plastic is thick and sturdy. I also like that not only does it have the pinch release in the middle of the lens cap, the edges can also be pinched to release the cap (just like on the original).

Question & Answer

Question :

does it fit a 18-135 canon lens?

Answer :

Yes, the 67 refers to the size of the lens where the cap goes. If you look at the front of your lens you will see the size lens cap you will need, for the 18-135 lens this is 67mm. This will vary depending on the lens type. For example the Canon 70-300 mm lens requires a 58mm cap.

Question :

Will this fit on a Canon 50mm 1.2?

Answer :

Yes. The filter size for the EF 50mm f/1.2 lens is 72mm so this new style pinch type 72mm lens cap will fit properly.

Question :

Does it fit the 70-200 lens?

Answer :

Yes it fits EF 70-200mm f/2.8L, but not for 70-200mm f/4L.

Question :

Does this have a string on the inside that can be anchored to the strap so you don't lose the cap if it falls off accidentally?

Answer :

No It does not have. It is Canon Original cap and canon never made anything with string attached to lens Caps. Hope this answers.
Thanks
Srinivas

Question :

does the 72 mm cap fit canon xha1

Answer :

Yes it fits well enough. Easily snaps on/off with a lens hood attached.

Question :

Need a center pinch lens cover cap for my canon sx530hs. can anyone give me a link to the correct item for this. thanks

Answer :

Check your les for the filter size, usually shown by the Greek letter phi and a size. I'm looking at my zoom lens and it says (phi)67mm. Once you know the filter size for your lens, you can go to the Canon web site (at Canon USA) and hunt it down there.
I am not familiar with your camera but you may also find the 800 number for either Canon or B&H and tell them your camera and lens and they could check it quickly, even sell you one or more.

Question :

Does this have an opening at it's side at about the 4:00 position? It is where the string attaches on my other Canon lens caps.

Answer :

No it doesn’t. There isn’t any holes for a string anywhere on this lens cap

Question :

Does it fit on a cannon 17-40mm?

Answer :

yes

Question :

Will this fit my vintage canon FD 85mm 1.2?

Answer :

Your FD 85mm 1.2 lens specs to 72mm filter size and the E-72 II is a 72mm sized cap so both items are compatible with each other as the cap clips will attach to the screw on threads of the lens.

Question :

Which lens cap fits an old, classic, canon AE-1?

Answer :

A Canon AE-1 is a camera body. Do you mean a body cap? If so any EF style body cap will fit. I believe the cap you are looking is the Canon RF-3_ Body Cap
