Very simple design, does the job very well
The Cosmo Mini 500 Copy Stand is a very simple design, that does the job very well. I was looking for a reasonably priced stand for limited/intermittent use -- small projects now and again. Most of what I copy are 8.5 X 11 inch sheets; this is the perfect size for the job.
It is very easy to set up and take down -- one bolt through the base (Allen's head wrench included) and a hand tightened bolt on top of the stand; a second hand tightened bolt secures camera to the stand. The product packaging is well thought for storage between uses.
All the parts are very sturdy, rugged in fact; the base is quite heavy, ensuring good stability. The product description indicates it will hold cameras up to 2.5 pounds -- so far I have only mounted a Nikon D7500 camera with a Nikkor micro 40mm DX lens, well under the weight limit. It holds this combination securely, with no slippage. The camera mounting area is nicely padded to prevent any damage to the camera base.
One addition I would suggest: a multi axis level mounted in the camera's flash shoe to ensure the camera is parallel to the base (a camera can rotate on the bolt mounting it to the stand).
I use a daylight rated light to the side of the stand to illuminate the copy.
This stand doesn't have many of the "extras" found on more expensive stands (eg, ratcheted height adjustments, detents for copy sizes, mountings for lights) but as a basic stand it does the job well.

Steady, easy to use
There are several models of this stand, and I would advise the 150 (largest) one, unless you know that you will only be shooting small items such as coins, stamps and jewelry. The unit is easily assembled, and every part is labeled. It comes very well packed, and is beautifully made, and simple.
My next project is to arrange light for illuminating pages.
I wish that the markings on unit had been metric, but I guess that we are still stuck with inches. They might have offered a choice on this.

Great for photo digitizing
Using my DSLR with the 18-55 kit lens to copy boxes of old photos which are then discarded. Software came with the camera. Remote shutter release keeps the camera steady. Zoom allows me to size the photo the full sensor. Files on computer are backed up daily to thumb drive. I will also do the same with slides this winter.

VERY SOLID AND WELL BUILT
I was very pleasantly surprised when I assembled this. It works perfectly for my DLSR photographing 35mm slides and well as 120 film negs. Highly recommend it. It held up a very heavy camera well.

Great little copy stand
A nice well built copy stand. Does not take up a lot of room but is sturdy and holds a camera very secure. I’m using with a light panel to copy slides and have been very satisfied with the results. I thought this item was reasonably priced

Question & Answer
Question :
What is the maximum paper size that can be used ? 12 x 12 ?
Answer :
While the base measures 12" X 12", the actual usable area is closer to 9" X 12" -- the vertical part of the stand takes up a portion of the space. However, depending on the lens being used, the item being photographed can easily extend over the edge of the base. I've photographed items larger than 12" X 12" -- for flimsier items I've simply put a stiffener beneath it (a piece of appropriately sized cardboard).
Question :
Is the stand compatible with an iPhone ?
Answer :
By itself, no. As previously noted, it would require some type of holder for the iPhone with a 1/4"-20 mount to mate with the bolt on the stand.
Question :
Is there an adapter for an iphone like the mini 100 has available?
Answer :
Yes, our "Cosmo Phone Holder, Selfie, Hands-Free, scanning for Copy Stands and Other Photography Applications #CPH20", for Mini 500 and Mini 300 will be available on amazon.com in the next two weeks.
Question :
Can this hold a nikon d610 + a nikon 60/2.8D?
Answer :
The max rating for Mini 500 is 2.2 lbs, however we had customers that installed cameras up to 3 lbs without any issues.
Question :
I have a canon r. what lens do i need to use this stand? does it require a macro lens?
Answer :
Is deepened the size of originals, if the originals are about 5” x 7” or 4” x 6’' you may need to purchase a “Close-up Lens Filter Set” (same diameter of your lens) and install front of the camera's lens, but if you want to take a picture from small objects like coins you have to purchase a MACRO lens (today’s most of cameras lenses have the “MACRO” position).
Question :
can remove the top screw part and attach a geared head instead?
Answer :
Yes. I attached a three way tripod head and it makes the copy stand way more usable, adjustable and consistently level.
Question :
What's the difference between the mini 300 and the mini 500?
Answer :
Hi,
Base in Mini 500 is heavier and ¼” thicker and is slightly larger (12” x 12” x 1”) than Mini 300.
The Bracket in Mini 300 has two point of horizontal adjustment (1” between the two holes), bracket in Mini 500 is ¼” wider (1.5”) and has 4” horizontally adjustment movement for moving the camera forward or backward.
The round post in Mini 300 is 12” x 1.5”, but in Mini 500 is 12” x 2”.
Mini 500 has a larger magnetic board than Mini 300.
