Tiny, versatile, (reasonably) powerful

This has been a truly invaluable addition to my portable lighting setup. I can't really oversell this light; the fact that it provides ~500 full power shots per charge, has super fast recycle times, and provides the flexibility of both a bare bulb and high output flash head in one compact body is pretty spectacular. That it does all those things with an internal li-ion battery for $300 is nothing short of astounding. Likewise, its ability to provide high speed sync (HSS) has made it so easy to get good-looking wide open aperture shots with flash during full daylight. (It really is quite feature rich.)

In any case, I've been very pleased using this light. My first outing with it was actually for a prom photo booth; I mixed this light with another lower-output flash for some easy dramatic lighting (30 inch beauty dish with shower cap diffuser) and it performed like a champ for well over 300 shots without the battery indicator even dipping. Granted, shots ranged from 1/16 to 1/4 power, but I've also used it for outdoor shooting at 1/1 and the battery life is still pretty robust; I haven't yet pushed it to 500 full power shots, but it doesn't sound at all far fetched given what I've experienced thus far. Additionally, the lack of battery cables and the more compact form factor (vs. something like the older Godox AD180/360) make this light a dream to set up. One small gripe I have (and it's very small) is that its thickness makes it a bit of a squeeze to get this light into a Bowens mount. That said, it does fit, just with a little more finessing than I'd like.

Overall, there's not much to complain about. The overwhelmingly positive reviews on YouTube for this light totally make sense, and every location portrait photographer should be pleased with the capability and performance this flash offers.

Now if Godox could just provide a flash trigger with HSS support that works for Fuji and Olympus so I could stop jerry-rigging trigger solutions I'd really be psyched!

The BEST Choice for the Real Estate Photographer.

Great portable strobe that is ideal for real estate photography. I have the Nicephoto Nflash 680. It works great too but it's super bulky and doesn't communicate directly with my Godox flash triggers such as the R2 and the XT32. This one does.

Here's the cool thing: I use the R2 trigger on my Sony a6000 and leave it set to 1/128th. I also have an XT32 trigger. Now when I use the XT32 to adjust the power and then remotely trigger the the camera (wirelessly with a wireless trigger or via the WIFI app)...instead of this flash shooting off at the 1/128th that the R2 trigger on the camera is set at...the flash triggers off at whatever setting I last called on via the XT32 trigger in my pocket.

This means I can set the camera up in a corner of a room, walk into the next room that needs to be flashed further back in the scene, adjust the power of the flash on the fly wirelessly away from the camera, and trigger the whole thing and the flash output it whatever it was when I arrived at my hiding spot around the corner.

Also, if you double-tap the center button on the XT32, it will turn off whatever "group" you are controlling with that trigger. So if this ad200 flash is assigned to "Group A" and I am controlling Group A via the XT32...I can just double-tap that center button to turn the ad200 off.

How is this an advantage? Well I use a flash/ambient Photoshop composite blend workflow in my business. Essentially I shoot a flash image and an all-ambient image and then layer them and blend them together to taste in post. So I'm always needing to turn my ad200 on and off and on and off as I switch from taking the flashed shot to the ambient shot. This whole setup allows me to do that seamlessly in a way I couldn't with my larger Nflash. So yeah...I'm loving this new gizmo.

I bought this magnificent combo of a flash and strobe back in sep of 2017. I fell in love with in right away! When in Feb, I was shooting using a Octobox and the slightest of breezes pushed it over and the fell on the led screen side(Back) of the flash gun and it broke. I mean broken broke. It just freakin’ works

After searching and educating myself on all of the strobe flashes on the market I decided this one best fit my needs and budget as a beginning professional photographer.
I have used this on two photos shoots so far and have found no flaws with it. A lot of people ask if it can “defeat” the sun when shooting outdoors in sun light; I would say yes, but I have only done this during sunset and not at noon sun light yet. It’s 200w and set to max power of 1/1 has shown to work very well in low or setting sun conditions. When coupled with a proper defuse system such as a 47” OctoBox, it makes for great lighting! Using it with the Godox trigger system or even Pocket Wizards showed no problems at all.

Awesome in a tiny body

Love my new flash, purchased it to replace my canon 600EX flash as my main softbox flash when I do outdoor photo sessions, I highly recommend this flash if it is your first Godox flash, although I could have purchased an AD200 Pro, I did not feel the small upgrades were worth the big price jump. I am happy with this flash as my starter flash and perhaps my next flash will be the AD200 Pro to use as the main flash and the AD200 as a hair light or secondary flash.

Contrary to what I have used in the past during photo sessions and what I know about strobe flashes and steady bare bulb light setups, this Godox flash has a model light, but it is not used with the bare bulb as I am used to, instead, the strobe flash uses the model light and not the bare bulb, not a deal-breaker but something different I was not expecting as all the bare bulb flashes I've used for wedding photography in the past had an integrated model light filament surrounding the flash filament of the bare bulb.

One thing that is not advertised that I was pleasantly surprised is that it has a treaded external connector for a trigger on the side, meaning, although it is recommended you purchase a Godox trigger for your camera to sync directly to the AD200, I purchased the Godox XPro-C E-TTL so I can control everything directly from the trigger on the camera without messing with the menus of the flash, you can use your own triggers like a pocket wizard or in my case a Yongnuo 622C TTL Flash Trigger I was using previously with my studio flashes when doing indoor photo sessions and my 600Ex when I did outdoor sessions, if you already have triggers for other flashes, it is easy to integrate and use those flashes in conjunction with the AD200 if you wanted, albeit without the control you would have with a Godox trigger.

Great for Real Estate Photography

I have been using a Godox AD600, which I love, but it is quite heavy, along with 2 speedlights for Real Estate Photography. The speedlights, a Canon 580 EX ii, and a Godox TT600 worked great, but they sure knew how to eat batteries. I would typically get one house from each set of batteries on the speedlights. I shot for several hours with the AD200's and barely used any battery. I like the size, especially compared to the AD600. Don't get me wrong, the AD600 is fantastic when there are really high ceilings, or lots of dark woods, but a lot of the time it is overkill, and the AD200's work great in most homes. I shoot flambient in most of the homes I do, and the ETTL is great. I find in smaller rooms than a STU is very helpful, and the AD200's came with a tripod mount that also holds the STU's very well. The ease of use, with the Godox X1 trigger system is great. I will probably upgrade to the X2 this year to allow Bluetooth control, but in the 2 years I have been using the Godox systems I have been very happy with them.

Just a fantastic product. This is the size of your typical speedlight with so much more power, about 200 watts more power. Why would you need so much power? Well this is ideal to use in high speed sync when you need to overpower the ambient light. Granted this won't let you completely overpower the bright sun, I'd use the AD600 for that, but this is close enough. It really depends on the location, but it does the job. I can't stress enough how wonderful and reliable this product is. Highly recommend it.

I shoot in manual typically at 1/8 to 1/16 most often. Very quick to cycle in my opinion. FYI - I have about 6-8k fires on mine and only 2 misfires. Battery life is amazing. Typically 1k fires/week and charge once.

Can you use this and trigger it at the same time as an off camera flash

Yes. As long as you have a godox transmitter on your camera as this flash has an internal receiver and an additional godox receiver on the other flash if that other off camera flash or three - 3rd party transever sets and attach one via the sync port on the side of each flash and a transmitter to your camera to trigger them.

I have the godox pro-c e-ttl transmitter, it allows you to remotely change the settings on the ad200 from the camera and if you already have a godox receiver for that off camera flash, you can set diff channels and so on.

If you already have 3rd party triggers, its easier. I got the Yongnuo yn622c-kit as it's a receiver and transmitter. I also got the yn622 triggers, its a pack of two receivers, like you got in the kit, now I have 3 receivers and a trigger.

If you already have your own trigger system id go with the 3rd party option, I had these triggers prior to obtaining the ad200, I was able to use the flash along side my studio lights.

I obtained the godox trigger as an impulse trying to see what that was like one day for a wedding. I now use the godox trigger exclusively when doing outdoor portraits as there's a dedicated button for the model light and I can alter the settings directly from the camera. But if I were to use a multi light sytem then I'd use my Youngnuo triggers.
