Great addition to a great modifier...

A great option for any 7 foot parabolic umbrella. I bought one for each of mine Westcott 7 foot umbrellas (one of which is silver and the other white). You will lose perhaps a stop of light, but the cover turns your umbrella into a massive soft box. The opening in the center of the diffusion cover is big enough to allow my Alien Bees to fit through. Here's a tip for mounting the cover - don't try to put it onto an opened and mounted umbrella (your arms won't be long enough to reach both sides). Instead, take a closed umbrella and insert it through the diffusion cover opening with the tip of the umbrella pointed toward the floor. When the umbrella is completely past the opening, reach in with your other hand and open the umbrella slowly. The edges of the umbrella will apply even pressure to the elastic band on all sixteen sides as it opens and when locked open, the diffusion cover will be taut all around.

This is how you turn an umbrella into a big softbox.

I've had the Westcott 7' white reflective umbrella for awhile and while I liked it, I only used it occasionally. But with the white front diffusion fabric on, this umbrella becomes a different animal and has become my favorite modifier. The light comes out of the umbrella like a 7' round softbox and bathes anything in it's path with soft light. It's pretty amazing...if you have or are going to have one of the Westcott 7' reflective umbrellas, you might want one of these too.

Awesome addition to my tool kit.

It's huge so, that is both a plus and a negative. I frequently shoot portraits on the beach and it is a sail in the smallest breeze and it doesn't have anyway to secure it to the umbrella to it gets pulled right off. If you're indoors is a sweet tool to add a different look quickly to your images, especially if you don't have a lot of time for set up.

I have pictures. - Why can't I upload my pictures?

This is a good umbrella diffusor. I like it. I'll show you if I get the chance. But Amazon is in apocalypse mode apparently so we'll have to wait until we're all liberated from bartertown etc.

Great for portraiture

If you haven't tried this, I can only tell you it really helped to disperse and soften the light, without losing much if any intensity.

get this if you have the parabolic umbrella

if you get the 7' parabolic umbrella, you need to get this. EZ to put on and take off. Provides a nice soft light over a large area.

This is quite good for the price

This is quite good for the price. Turns my Westcott umbrella into a makeshift softbox. I haven't yet tried it with hot lights, so I don't know how heat resistant it is, but the diffuser is decent and thick enough to minimize hot spots. I'm happy with it.

Question & Answer

Question :

Is this umbrella or just white fabric

Answer :

just the fabric

Question :

So, is this basically a measure of fabric that will fit over the underside of my Westcott 7ft Parabolic to turn it into a brolly?

Answer :

Nearly. It's a fitted fabric diffuser that covers the face of the parabolic to turn it into something more like an octabox. It's especially useful if you have the silver or white parabolics, not the shoot through.

Question :

Can I use this item with the Impact 7' parabolic umbrella?

Answer :

I don't see why you couldn't... I love mine I can do wedding portraits with just this one umbrella but I use it with a diffusion cover as well to soften it more...

Question :

can you clean this in a washing machine? what about the dryer?

Answer :

Look on there website, but I don’t think so. I usually just use a damp sponge to remove any dust or dirt.

Question :

Why is this better than a white cotton bedsheet cut to fit? Serious question.

Answer :

Serious answer: It's better because 1) it's lighter than a bedsheet, 2) it fits snug to the umbrella in any position (like directly overhead), 3) it has an opening for the umbrella shaft, 4) it's the same color white as all your softboxes, 5) it doesn't look ghetto.

Question :

How do you fold or store the diffusion cover?

Answer :

Cover came with the case, just when i need to take it somewhere out of my studio just put it in the case, otherwise it stays on umbrella all the time thank you

Question :

My strobe is too strong when at wide Fstop, can I use two of these stacked one on top of the other?

Answer :

I don't see how that would work very well...with the first umbrella placed onto your light, how would you place the second umbrella? You'll be happy to know that there is a much easier solution. An inexpensive neutral density gel (filter) that fits over your light will do the trick. Put it over your reflector so that it doesn't touch the lights (stobe/model) themselves. These are stackable, so you can put as many over the light as you need. I stick them on with gaffers tape. Look here:

Question :

Could this be modified to fit over a 60" umbrella? I can't find any similar item for a 60" which is what I need.

Answer :

Yes

Question :

I am thinking of buying this to cover the Neewer 72"/185cm parabolic umbrella, will it fit?

Answer :

I bought this and it fit another brands umbrella. It was actually too big for it. This is made for the 7" umbrella though. You are going to have a 6 foot. It may still fit but it will sag a bit.

Question :

Will this work with a speedlite?

Answer :

This is only the diffusion sock, but the actual umbrella will absolutely work...it's just an umbrella, like any other...just huge. You would need an umbrella mount with a cold shoe for the flash.
