I like this lens

Beautiful lens, got it on Warehouse deals, it blows me away for it's price point. It is large, and it does look professional, and fits nice on my a7s II

Sharp - Some Distortion

This lens is very sharp and nice. I noticed the aperture ring and focus are a little tight and noisy, but otherwise great for the price and it's nice to have gears.

Same same but different

Great price. Same one as the Rokinon Cine DS except $75 cheaper.

I have all rokinon lenses, but noticed this samyang was on sale for several hundred dollars cheaper. I'd heard that they were same lenses rebranded for different markets, but was still a little skeptical given the price difference. But I can now confirm that they are identical. This lens fits perfectly with my other Rokinons. Great quality.

This is Samyang - Not Rokinon. I did speak to the company directly though, the did confirm that this Samyang lens model is exactly the same as Rokinon Cine DS line. Same coating etc, just different name. I think they go under different names in different parts of the world for tax reasons

worth every little bit i paid for it (~38,000 Indian Rupees)
Like any lens, it works best when you stop down the aperture a little bit, since when you shoot at T1.5 you can see some purple fringing around bright reflections in particular
And also, as with all Cine lenses, you end up with a completely manual lens, with no stabilization or autofocus
the focus ring in particular will definitely seem tight the first few times you use it, but fortunately it loosens up nicely after a little time spent using it.
Both the focus and the aperture rings (especially the latter) feel very smooth and satisfying to use, and the build quality on the lens as a whole is great. The follow focus gear rings are solid and dependable, and this lens excels with the use of effective focus pulling. Color fringing at T1.5 aside, the image quality on this thing is absolutely stunning, and it works wonders with the sensor on my sony a6300. If you have a sony E mount camera, you may need to tweak your shortcuts around just a bit to speed up your workflow. All that said, this may not be a ziess cine prime or a cooke optics monster, but for the price that it's offered for this thing is a god damn beast. Use tripods, sliders and stabilizers though, because you are trading in lens stabilization for image quality here.

Question & Answer

Question :

How does this compare to the Rokinon cine 50mm?

Answer :

It's literally the same lens. Rokinon & Bower are just Samyang rebranded for different markets. Everything is the same except for the name printed on the lens barrel.

Question :

How does this brand compare to the Sony SEL50F18/B 50mm f/1.8 Lens for Sony E Mount Nex?

Answer :

I have not used the Sony Lens. But I can say that the lens is really nice, well built, metal components, glass works well and we shoot in 4K. We use it with an URSA Mini and the Large URSA and have not had any problems. NOTE we have 2 of these. 50 and 35. when we purchased we did have to return the 35 right away because the aperture ring was sticky, but that could have been the seller. Note, for the money, we could not be happier.

Question :

is it sharp? which would you choose between this 50 and the 42.5 panasonic 1.7 lens? i am looking for sharpness

Answer :

Neither, although I love the lens for cost it's really only sharp 2.2 and above, if you want a 1.8 and below that's sharp you'll need to look into Xeen, for alittle more look into Zeiss and canon cine and of course for alittle more go upto master prime, canon L series is good but you get alittle more distortion but you may not notice it at 50+mm

Question :

Does the nikon version work on non full frame cameras like the d7000?

Answer :

Yes it does.Regards Steve 1-800-221-2253

Question :

Will this work on the Sony A7 without an adapter?

Answer :

I have the Canon version. I would check to see if there is a Sony version.

Question :

Has anyone used this on an aps-c (crop) sensor? thanks in advance!

Answer :

It's very sharp in the center, and excellent in the corners so it will be fine on a crop sensor. I mainly use mine on a Sony A7sII and Nikon D810.

Question :

will this work on the a7s full frame mode?

Answer :

Yes. I have used it on several projects with the a7s and it works beautifully. Great lens.
