So far so good.

I've had this product 1 week, will update if needed.

I have a 24' x 48' building that I need to watch. In the day time it's great, enough light gets in to see fine, at night was a different story. The light is mounted about 9 foot high on the center of the 24ft wall 90 degrees from the camera, which is also mounted up over 9ft high. I will be adding one more camera and another one of these lights with slightly different angles so they don't wash over each other at the far end of the 48'. Very pleased with the results of just one light.

I will let the attached before and after pictures speak for themselves.

So far so very good!

Received this IR Illuminator yesterday and immediately set it up (read: plugged it in) next to my security camera. The on board Infra red light on the camera quit after 4 years so I bought this for $30 rather than spending $150 on a new camera. Once it got dark out, the difference in what could be seen (and recorded) was HUGE! I’ve included a photo grab from the monitor of the view to the back yard with the onboard IR lamp and another with the Univivi lamp set up to show the difference. Amazing! Nighttime now looks like a b&w daytime view. The camera is mounted 15’ up and the distance the lamp lights out in the 2d photo is 90’. Assuming this lasts a reasonable length of time, it’s so worth the money, and I do see a few more of these in my future.

Cameras failed me after 6 months

4,000 letters can say what this light has done for my barn. It's like night and day inside now. Without is before I installed the light, and after is after I installed the light. Easy to installed (took 10 mins) and wow. The pictures will tell 1,000 words after this light. The averge cost to run this light is about $1.20 a year (depending on where you live). You can't go wrong with this light. My cameras have night vision, but the light ring after 6 months failed. The without picture will show this.

Lights up the area for great camera visibility

Lights up the area for great camera visibility. Before and after results are fantastic. I took a chance on this hoping for the best. I am not disappointed. It is completely dark outside when this shot is taken,

it got bad outside and cooled off - windy rainy day

Got it up and running now. I tested it out when I bought it but never got around to installing it. Got tired of missed creatures of the night and ????
I got it up just using a wood working clamp to see where I wanted to put it. Did that for a couple of nights. Then I ran a 30' power extension wire that I bought along with this. Then today, it got bad outside and cooled off - windy rainy day, so I pulled it down and built me a wood mounting bracket to add to my porch roof post. Pics added

Update 09-24-2021 Work like a charm for 3 years ,under a roof but can get wet
Stopped working two nights ago, still have to see what's not working, light, power supply or power cord extension??? I'll update if I remember.
Please smash the like button, this is a real review

Absolutely awesome. Granted I've only had it for a couple of days, it has more than met and beat my expectations. It has a great build quality and feels like a nice piece of equipment. I wouldn't hesitate to say that it performs better than how it's described and its a great addition to any camera with night vision. I live up North with a decent bit of land and it illuminates a solid acre. That being said, you're certainly not going to see with clarity what's going on that far away, depending on your equipment obviously, but at least you'll be aware that something's out there. Inside those parameters it's very bright with a nice even spread. I would recommend this U8R illuminator to anyone looking, without a doubt

Recently bought another one

It works well. I put a wattmeter on it (I needed the measurement to run it out of a 16-port electrical box) and it pulled approximately 12.3w with the LEDs lit up at night. It is advertised as having a 12v/1a adapter, which would put the device as being powered near the very end of the transformer's power range, however I have had absolutely no problems with it. The transformer and device do run a little warm but not hot. Again, no harm or problem with that.

It is smaller than it looks but puts out a nice flood of IR at night. I mounted it under the soffit. The picture on the left shows the patio camera which has a weak IR (only 2 LEDs), so most of the lighting is coming from the IR illuminator, mounted about 6 feet away. I connected with a 16.5 ft cable extender sold by WildHD, although you can also get those extensions in 33 ft lengths that can be daisy-chained. During the day, you will not see much on the IR even with the photo-sensor fully covered -- I had to look very closely with my hand cupped around the edge to see that they were glowing. But it is a whole 'nother story at night -- very obvious that the IR is on (there is no switch, just comes on and off by the photo-sensor).

I recently added a second Univivi illuminator to light up the cars in the driveway; as you can see from the pictures on the right, the IR illumination makes a big difference.

Be careful about turning off your camera's IR; apparently there is a mechanical switch inside most cameras that blocks IR from *any* source if you turn off the IR on the camera. Think of the Univivi as augmentation, not replacement.

Edit 3/19/19. Bought my third one of these recently and it works as expected, even with extender cables. I'm not sure about the range, but where I have this one aimed, I would estimate to be about 50 feet. The other two are still going strong.

Edit 12/04/20. The oldest one (approx. 2 1/2 years old) finally had a transformer fail. Illuminator still works great. I swapped in an extra transformer (same 12v/1a output) I had from a camera that now runs out of a power panel and the illuminator is working again. These are definitely outlasting the IR in my cameras, which seem to flame out after a year or so.

Great light - Amazing customer service

The light is exactly what I needed. I have a very dark side yard, and my security cameras did not provide enough light on their own to illuminate the entire area - in fact, it barely lit up any of it. This light turned the pitch-black side yard camera view into the best picture of any of my cameras, and it lit the entire length of the yard (approximately 20x50 feet).

After just over a year, the light started flashing/flickering. Knowing that the light was out of warranty, I contacted the seller to see if it could be repaired, or if I could purchase and replace the flashing bulb. I'm not sure how I thought I would identify the defective bulb, since infrared isn't visible to human eyes, but I figured I had nothing to lose by trying. To my great surprise and delight, they answered me almost immediately and said that even though the light was out of warranty, they would send me a new light at no charge. You don't see customer service like that very often!

I highly recommend this light, and even more highly recommend the seller.

Question & Answer

Question :

I'm going to try to use these with a poe splitter. what size is the ac adapter plug going into the unit?

Answer :

It's a 2.1mm x 5.5mm barrel plug

Question :

I have amcrest cameras my night vision is 98 ft and I’m only getting half of that will this give me more night vision or do I need to go to the next l

Answer :

You need to check the wavelength of the IR LEDs before you buy these lights. If they aren’t the same as your camera they won’t work at all. If they are the same , then you can either buy these Illuminators in wide angle which will light up a wider area but not as much distance, or a spot illuminated which will give you the needed distance.

Question :

has anyone confirmed the wattage with their 1a power supply with a kill-a-watt type device?

Answer :

Mine came with a 2 amp power supply. The sticker on the back of the light says it pulls 8 watts which equates to .66 amps. So even a one amp supply should be fine.

Question :

Is there any way this can be made to be portable?

Answer :

I actually measured the amps that it is drawing when plugged into house power. It gets to about 11V and only 0.11 mA. Obviously the 8W rating is way off in terms of power consumption. You should be able to drive this light easily with an external power source.

Question :

What ip poe camera(s) would be a good match with this 850nm ir light?

Answer :

Any of them....... But I will warn you, these lights have been failing on me at an unacceptable rate. I would look for a brand that offers a better warranty.

Question :

Is the power for this grounded? I would like to put this outside but the cord looks to be two pronged and doesn't have a ground.

Answer :

I have mine outside and it works fine. I keep it mounted up, under the porch overhang where it’s not in direct rain, but by no means out of the elements. Just remember, all of your outdoor Christmas lights are 2 prong. And no issues. The light is low voltage. It steps down from 110v to 12v at the supplied transformer.

Question :

How long how these lasting everyone?

Answer :

Only had them for 6 months now. So far so good. The power supply is plug in the attic and had seen extreme heat now extreme cold and all is well for now.

Question :

Is there a solar panel, compatible to this product?

Answer :

You would need a panel that is 12 volts and probably 2 amps.. Meaning a 24 watt solar panel might work.. The power supply is 1 amp, but you want to go bigger to not wear out the solar panel.

Question :

I have a arlo pro 2 camera. Will it switch it back to recording in color?

Answer :

My 8 LED Univivi Infra Red illuminator lights up an area 12ft x 40ft very well at night but the Night Owl camera is in the night mode ie: black and white. If you want to have color you should try setting up a motion detector light. The motion detector light could be by itself, but the camera will be dark when there is no motion. You can also hook up a motion detector light along with the infra red. Then the area will be lighted B&W when there is no motion and color when there is motion.

Question :

Will these work with ring doorbell or ring products?

Answer :

I use a couple with outdoor Canary camera products. Be mindful to point in the same direction the camera is facing. One of mine is out of service, so I will seek warranty repair/replacement. Provides good night illumination.
