Best accessory for your Godox AD200 - great light pattern and quality - get one!
I just got my H200R and had to try it out – first thing I thought of (and looks like others did as well) was to shoot against a background to compare the light pattern of the H200R vs. the barebulb, the barebulb with the AD-S2 reflector, and the Fresnel head, in order to compare the light spread from the various heads.
The Barebulb really needed to have the power turned up, as the light is spread in all directions (and, you wouldn’t point the bulb directly at the subject anyway). The AD-S2 looks much better than the Fresnel pattern, but still has a hot spot in the center. The H200R looks great, with a much more even circular light pattern with no hotspot and a very nice falloff.
Next, I shot the various heads into an umbrella – you can see how the different heads compare at filling the umbrella in several of the other reviews, so I thought I’d skip that and post a shot that shows the light spill to the sides when shooting into the umbrella. In that series, you can see that the H200R has very little light loss to the sides - (so it’s more efficient – keeping the light is going where you want it, which also increases your control over where the light hits).
OK, great - enough of that, let’s see what the light looks like on some people! I grabbed a couple of family members as victims (er, models) and got these shots. One question to answer - can it be used without a modifier (e.g. softbox) for those windy days? The first shot with the male subject was in late afternoon, bright sunlight/backlight, using a 3 stop ND filter so I can shoot wide open with the Canon 135 f/2.0 in bright light, using my AD200 with H200R at about 45 degrees to camera right for a fill light (just the H200R – no other modifier). The first shot with the female subject was taken in a shady area with a bright background and the H200R near the camera axis. The second shot of the male subject was taken in deeper shade, with the AD200/H200R in a Cheetahstand Colt 45 reflector, shooting from across the pool, about 25 feet away at about 60 degrees off camera right. The second shot of the female subject is in shade with a less well lit
So, can I get away with using the AD200 with the H200R and no modifiers for portraits? I think the answer to that is yes!
(That is very hand for solo shoots on windy days – don’t have to worry about the whole light stand blowing over and breaking your AD200, and it's way easier to carry, too. The light is even. I don't see a hot spot. The light doesn’t seem hard or harsh. I’m sold! The AD200 with the H200R is still quite compact, so it will also make a versatile grab-and-go setup. Very nice piece of kit – get one for your AD-200!
Also, when buying from this supplier on Amazon, you get your product FAST (rather than 2-4 weeks when buying on ebay from China). They got the H200R in my hands in 2 days – what’s not to love? Now I’m looking forward to the arrival of the AK-R1 accessory kit I just ordered (snoot, barndoors, gels, etc. that mount directly on the H200R magnetically).

Great Light Quality
My first accessory for my Godox AD200 is this H200R, round flash head. It perfectly snaps on in the place of the original fresnel head or the bare bulb accessory head. It also fits in the S bracket if you put it through and attach the round head afterward.
I was pleasantly surprised to see it came with a nice, carrying case.
I primarily use the AD200 light for stock and product photography in my small home studio and will be using it on location very soon as well.
The H200R round head fills the minor shortcomings in that the original fresnel head displayed. It still offers the same 200ws of power output as the original fresnel head but the quality of the light is very much improved IMO.
The light from the fresnel head casts a definite pattern which can be very noticeable in some uses. For the type of photography I do, can leave hot spots or uneven light on my images. The round head with it’s frosted diffusion lens gives a much more even and natural looking light. You can see the difference in the pictures I posted.
Another improvement the H200R round head has over the fresnel head is the improved modeling light. While the fresnel head does offer a modeling light, it is only one power level and not bright enough to be useful for me. The round head offers 3 levels of brightness and is much brighter. For the product photography as I do, it works great. If you are trying to use it through a large soft box it may not be bright enough for some but for me, I find the H200R round head to be a huge improvement in what I do.

Round Head delivers Even and Consistent Light!
I have a number of Godox/Flashpoint Products. Ad600, 350s, Flashpoint Studio 300, Ad200, strip boxes and plus more. Their products have ALWAYS delivered exactly what I need and my clients are always blown away by my lighting that the products offer. When the round head for the ad200 was announced, I honestly did not know what to expect compared to the Fresnel and the Bulb especially if you modify the lighting. I decided to give this a try since I have a great experience with the other products.
Let me say - the round head is every bit worth the $79! It gives off CONSISTENT and EVEN lighting. It makes a HUGE difference from the Fresnel and Bulb heads. I have attached examples of the round head, bare, with modifiers and grids/socks. No matter what - it is always even no matter the modifier that is used. I am very happy with the results and will most certainly find myself using this head the most compared to the bulb and Fresnel. Another great benefit is that you dont have to worry as much as you would with the bulb being exposed and could possibly be damaged, you get a little more protection with the round head.
I am VERY happy with this product.
All pictures attached are with the round head just using different modifiers.

A great addition to the AD200
I primarily shoot with a 17-55 f2.8 on a Canon 80D. This means that I am usually pretty close to my subject and therefore don’t need the zoom of a typical speed light. Instead I prefer the better quality of a bare bulb. Until now I have been using the diffuser cone originally designed for the AD-360. This works amazingly well for making soft light with a relatively small adapter, but it wastes a lot of the power as it is an inefficient reflector.
The round head attachment is the perfect compromise for filling in shadows with soft-ish light. The reflector puts a lot more of the output forward in a usable manner while still having the quality of the bare bulb. The Fresnel head that ships with the AD-200 is absolutely hideous under 15 feet or so. In fact I had to dig through the boxes to find it just to take a comparison picture for this review.
In the pictures you can see the difference at full output at around 10 feet from a blank wall. The diffuser cone is easily the softest, but it really reduces output a lot. The Fresnel head puts a lot of light out, but is an extremely ugly shape. The round head is between them. It has a satisfying round pattern that is a little harder than the dome, but much more intense. This is exactly the compromise I want for my style of photography.
The ability to change the nature of the AD-200 by switching heads is really refreshing. I do hope that Godox continues to innovate and develop more accessories for this system.

A reason why I would choose H200R over other options(Fresnel head, bare bulb)
Photos above (from the left)
1. AD200 with Fresnel head
2. AD200 with Bare Bulb - No reflector
3. AD200 with Bare Bulb & AD-S2
4. AD200 with H200R Round head
H200R is really something you should consider if you already have AD200.
My struggle has always been carrying all the light modifiers for my location shooting. I have a AD600B and a AD200, and few speedlights from Godox. You would not believe how big your carrying bag becomes when you have to carry all those accessories such as softboxes, reflector, beauty dish.
For those reasons, H200R became a total savior for me. Because how it modifies the output quality, I do not need to use big modifiers to achieve soft and even light. Which also means the chance of getting knocked over by wind has gone down as well!!(no more broken strobe lol)
Please check those 4 photos I attached in this review to see the actual light output difference between those most popular AD200 heads(Fresnel, Bare Bulb, Bare Bulb with standard Reflector, Round head).
(They were all taken in studio with Nikon D800E using 60mm 2.8D Macro lens at 1/250, f/16, iso 100 at full power)
As you can see, round head puts out most even light without hot spot in the center. What it really means is that, you do not need use extra diffusing accessories to achieve soft and even light. Also means AD200, which is Godox's most compact portable strobe light, becomes even more compact and portable.
If you haven't tried H200R yet, you really should. That's all I can say.

My new GO TO accessory!
I can’t say enough about this flash head. The light that comes from this is some amazingly soft light. I have tried other “small” flash adapters and they come nowhere near the quality of the H200R. The attached images with this review is a two light setup. The key light was using the H200R with no other modifiers and there are minimal hotspots on the wine bottle. I included a BTS shot as well to show the setup used. It was a quick thrown together setup to purposely challenge the light’s capability. I am thoroughly impressed with this and see myself using it on a regular basis. Especially for “Run & Gun” purposes! I only experienced a 1/3 light loss with this compared to bare bulb which is amazing as well.

My new go-to portable hairlight. Softer light spread with useful modelling LEDs.
This round head is an alternative to the fresnel head and the bare bulb options for the Godox AD200 portable strobes.
I often use one AD200 as a hairlight because the battery lasts all day on the power settings I need and it is light weight enough to be suspended up high on a boom above the model. I don't want any accidents with heavy studio strobes !
Before getting the H200R, I used a standard AD200 with a S-type bracket in a stripbox as a hairlight to ensure the light was in the correct position and not spreading out everywhere (see the set up at the bottom in the picture) .
My new set up with just the AD200 and ring flash head is much smaller and lighter, so easier to transport and I can see the position of the hair light on the subject because of the inbuilt modelling LEDs, which is a big plus.
The modelling leds can be switched on and off from the remote trigger. From the AD200 itself, the modelling LEDs can also be adjusted in brightness (low , medium and high)
The light from this ring flash head is diffused through a translucent disc screwed to the end of the head so the light is already softer than from either of the other heads and I am also planning to use it as a main-light or fill-light outside, as there will be less chance of it being blown over than using a softbox or umbrella.
The ring flash head doesn't fit in the same padded case as the AD200, but it does have its own little semi rigid pouch.
So , all in all , perfect fit for my needs.

This is the biggest little light I've ever seen.
We expect a small light to produce hard edges between reflective and shadow areas. When I have pointed this little gem directly into the scene the results resemble what I get from a 20-24 inch octie box. No idea how they figured this out but it works pretty darn good. The transitions are not what you'll see from large boxes but on a windy beech this tool is will be the give you the next best effect.

Very impressed!
I've been doing natural light photography for a few years now, and I have to say that even though I don't know that much about artificial light just yet I saw a noticeable improvement between this round head and the original Fresnel head of the AD200. Light covers a larger area and is slightly softer. I got the AK-R1 modifier kit for this and it's oh so portable!
Bottomline: I'm loving this new phase of learning artificial light, and this round head + accessories are making it so much fun!

LOVE
Bought this to work with my AD200 so I can achieve softer light as well. It came in a nice case, the light itself is sturdy and easy to attach to the AD200. The magnetic rim is a plus for various attachments and gels. I did splurge for my birthday as there are other attachments or modifiers for AD200 that you can achieve the same result.. however, at the moment, this is my go to light attachment for its ease of use.

Question & Answer
Question :
Does this fit on to ad200 pro? Ive heard that some people were having problems mounting this to a ad200 pro.
Answer :
Fits just fine. All the heads are completely interchangeable between the AD200 and AD200Pro. It's exactly the same form and fit. Some heads fit a bit tight the first few times when new and feel a bit stiff trying to take them off, but that's with either one, not just the Pro. Some people don't know how to put a head on or take it off from the AD200(Pro) very well and struggle with it. They'll either "get it" eventually - typically after the first few times - or they don't and will continue to struggle with it as long as they own it.
Question :
I wonder how this attachment differs from using bare bulb with the AD-S2 diffuser attachment?
Answer :
The light is softer with H200R, and also you have more accessories available, really easy to attach them on. You won't get the harsh light from the center, since you have a bare bulb in the middle by using AD-S2.
The plastic cover in front of the AD-S2 makes highlights on people's skin grayish, if removes it, the light is too harsh.
Question :
will the light stay on? Or does it only flash?
Answer :
This is not a “continuous” light source with which you can make your captures. The AD200 does have “modeling” light mod to assist you in aiming and in visualizeing. I think the”ring” flash head is not named correctly. A ring flash is a circle of lights in which the camera is in the center. This attachment produces smoother transitions from reflective to shadow areas than other small diameter light sources. It’s a gem for this purpose and a great tool to have in your kit because it does not have hot spots or voids. It’s even, smooth light is very useful.
Question :
Would this be better, same or not as good the bare bulb in a softbox?
Answer :
A bare bulb in a softbox (I use a short, wide cone to capture spill out the back) would work just as well. Its portability with the camera, however, depends completely on its size. The bare bulb in the 5" bowl reflector with white diffusion cover accomplishes much the same as this does. This convenience can be the smaller size - although with the tradeoff of the light source not being as broad and as soft as a 5" diameter white diffusion cover creates. Which you use depends on your vision for the photograph. One does not necessarily replace the other. I personally prefer the 5" bowl with cover on the bare bulb . . . but can see a few situations in which this would be more desirable.
Question :
Will this work on a flashpoint evolv 200 pro? Seem to be the exact same fitting.
Answer :
Yes - works fine on evolv200 Pro
Question :
you attach this to your camera with the ad200 body? Their photo doesn’t look like the ad200 body though.
Answer :
This mounts to the AD200 in place of the fresnel head or the bare bulb head. It does not attach to a camera.
Question :
What do you need to attach this to your camera?
Answer :
Yes, you will need Godox ad200 pocket speedlite firstly. This head is attached on the ad200 instead of its other heads.
Question :
Can you attach a snoot to this head ?
Answer :
I have a snoot that came with the bundle and it attaches fine.
Question :
Will thia fit a speedlight? The 860?
Answer :
I don't believe so. The head on the 860 is not removeable. This flash head has the tube integrated into the actual housing. It's enclosed.
Question :
Does an umbrella still need to be used to disperse light?
Answer :
The light pattern is dispersed somewhat by the fresnel lens -- but you'll need light modifiers in most situations that required them with other lights.
