Why did I wait so long???

I LOVE this light table!!!!! Traded in my bulky Light tracer2...smooth top, so spinning drawings ia a breeze. Great, even light...no bright spots, and the best thing about it is that I can store it on my slide out keyboard tray on my desk, freeing up valuable real estate on my desk! Slide it out when I want to use it, slide it back in when done!😀❤

Brilliant, even light across entire surface.

I look at a lot of half-frame b/w negatives, and my old light-box needed replacement. The Huion A2 is a revelation compared to my old box, and to the first light-box I ordered here on Amazon, which was in the $80+ range, wedge-shaped, and brightly lit across the top edge, but dimly lit on the opposite side. Don't settle for a cheap light-box. The Huion a pleasure to use, is beautifully made. Can't comment on the durability because I've had it such a short time, but it seems made of quality materials. You can adjust the brightness. Even the power supply and its cable were superior to the returned light-box. The active area is 22.44"x14.68" and it's about 1/4" thick. Very pleased with this product.
I also recommend getting the "puck" supports that you can place under the light-box on all four corners to bring it closer to your eye, or you can place a couple under the top to provide you with a sloping surface, which is a more comfortable way of working for some people. The pucks come in a soft net drawstring bag, but they are also designed to stack together neatly.

Amazing product!

I previously had the A3 light board from Huion. I actually scratched the surface trying to get some of the stickiness from artist tape off of it. It still worked amazing but seeing as how I’m kind of a perfectionist, I gave it to my son and ordered a new one! This time I ordered the a two, which I find a little large sometimes but it also gives me room for reference photos. My name purpose and having a light board is too quickly get an outline of my reference photo as it takes much longer to get your perspective points when you do it by hand, and I just don’t have the patience for that. Also I am at a self-taught artist. And while I have done well with that for most of my life there were a lot of techniques that I wanted to learn. I searched YouTube tutorials to try to learn certain techniques and I found it I really could not learn from those videos. I had the idea one day that if I use the light board, I might be able to teach myself those techniques, by tracing in the beginning. For instance I struggled greatly with certain types of animal fur. When I first got the light board I found myself using it quite a bit with a reference photo underneath to draw animal fir. I have actually taught myself through the board to draw fir now, and once I have my initial outline, I generally only turn the board on just to check my progress against my reference photo. So I have literally taught myself several new techniques with the light board. And while I still would advise taking art classes if they are available, if you live in an area where they are not, like I do, using a light board is another way, if you are committed to actually learning and practicing and not just tracing, of learning new techniques and practices. And my Huion board has been amazing. I also use it as my drawing board, because after moving to a smaller place I no longer have use of my art desk. In conjunction with my Lampât lamp, which gives me 3 different types of lighting with 3 different levels of each, I have my own little art space!
And their customer service is right on. I had to return my first board and they were on it immediately. Can’t say enough about them!

Wow! What a Great Lightbox!

Wow, wow, wow! This wonderful lightbox deserves a bit of time to write a review. Anyone who needs a lightbox needs to know: this one could not be better. I do a lot of calligraphy and other artwork. I'd been using another brand of lightbox for some years, and it served me well, but it was small, and that got awkward when working on large projects. I'd have to shift my paper around in the middle of writing, risking errors, smudges or bent paper. This lightbox...I have to say, "Wow, " again. I thought maybe it was an extravagance...until I used it the very first time. The surface is nice and smooth, and yet my art paper does not slide off. That was a big concern for me. It sits very steady on my slanted desk--no wiggling or shifting around, and yet it is light enough and easy enough to move when I need to. The light control is easy to work. I have not had any trouble with pushing the power button off accidentally while I'm working, as I read in another review. the light is nice and bright--even brighter than my old lightbox, I think, but I also like being able to dim it once in a while. Now I wonder why I didn't order this sooner.

I Searched for and Researched Many Light Pads

I did my homework on this one. I searched on Google for information that would help me make a smart, educated light pad purchase. I read multiple reviews from 1 star to 5. I kept many different brands and sizes in my cart and for days until I was able to narrow down to just a few. I finally decided upon this one.

I received it today so I have yet to put it to good use. That said, I may end up editing this review in the future. For now I'll share with you what I like and don't like.

1.) I'm so glad I went with this size! I was concerned it was going to be too big but I think it will be just right for the type(s) of work I do; illustration work and for transferring clothing patterns - anything smaller would be less efficient.

2.) It is light weight so I think it will be portable friendly but, it will need a nice carry case which I've been having a difficult time finding.

3.) The cord is a good length. I was concerned it would be too short to go from table top to wall outlet.

4.) I do like the smooth adjustable lighting verses step adjustability. I think the brightest level is sufficient but you should watch the video and decide for yourself.

In the video attached to this review, I show the pad in use on an illustration project that I'm currently working on. I demonstrate the brightest setting with different weights of paper from sketchbook paper up to 246 pound acrylic paper. I also show the packaging that my Amazon order arrived in, which as much as it totally cracks me up, it's equally concerning....how this item didn't arrive damaged is beyond me.

For the short amount of time I have tried out this product, I can say that I would recommend it. Once I put it to work, I'll have to write an update.

So easy to use

this light pad made a difficult and onerous job very easy. I had some figures that I was drawing that were in the wrong space in relation to each other and I needed to add more figures. I simply cut them apart re-taped them into the place where they needed to be, added in the new figures and traced the whole picture onto watercolor paper. previously I was able to put my original drawing onto tracing paper and then use carbon paper to transfer it to the watercolor paper. But then I had the carbon on the watercolor paper and it doesn't erase. this way I can see that I can use watercolor pencils when I trace it onto the watercolor paper and then when I put water on it they'll just dissolve and hopefully go away.

I really love this and I got that largest size because I didn't want to be limited. it's large enough for a 12 by 16 painting which is good enough for me

Massive Size and Very Functional

This device does nothing more than give you under lighting for drawing and writing projects. I love it because it gives you the option of dimming the light to an appropriate level that suits you and the project you are working on. It runs on 110 volts. They make another version that can be charged via USB. But I like this one most because it's surface area is so large. Also, because it's so thin it doesn't bother my wrist when I do work down around the bottom margin. I may fashion something out of wood that will tilt the screen up toward me, but actually it's fine the way it is.

UPDATE 2/23/17:
After using this light box for over a week, I still love it but have come to realize that it is very easy to turn off the light when I accidentally touch the power button with my hand. Placing a piece of tape over the button once I've turned on the power and adjusted the light to my liking does not resolve the issue. I'll have to give this some more thought. I also bought a few of the Artograph Pad Pucks (sold on Amazon) to prop up the light box at varying angles.

An Excellent Artist Tool

For creatives, there are so many uses for a light box: animation, comics, tattoo tracing, quilting, photography, etc. Recently, I had a chance to review a light box offered by Huion: their A2 Light Pad.
On opening the box, you get the light pad, power adapter, instruction manual, and also a nice little clip to hold paper to the pad.
The Huion A2 Light Pad is beautifully designed. Made with acrylic panels and LED lighting, illumination is bright and even. The working surface is smooth and there are numbered scales on two sides for aligning what you're working on.
With a large 12.6 x 20.5 inch work surface, the Huion A2 Light Pad is the largest model Huion offers. Thin in construction and weighing just over 6 pounds, you can easily carry it wherever you need it.
The lighting on this unit, however, is the really incredible part. Once you plug in the power adapter, you see the red glow indicating power to the unit. And simply touching the power button, the pad instantly illuminates. Holding your finger on the button, you get a gradual increase in light intensity (and it really does this gradually, not in steps). Likewise, touching and holding again lowers it gradually.
According to Huion, the LED lamps can last up to 50,000 hours. The surface is comfortable to work on, and even with a few hours use at a time, I found it emits very little heat.
As I mentioned previously, there are many uses for a light box. For myself, I've had a great love for stop motion animation and it wasn't long ago I found sand on a light box creates some really unique looks and possibilities for animation. So, I played a bit with sand using the light pad and found it worked fantastic. However, used for this purpose, I would recommend placing something like a clear cover sheet or glass on top of the unit first, as sand could scratch the acrylic surface.
Whatever the use, I think this is an excellent product. It's light enough to carry wherever you need it, with even, controllable lighting, and is comfortable in use.

the light box was in perfect condition. This is a game changing piece of ...

I previously used a LightPad 930 from ARTOGRAPH. I only steered away from them because of the price for a larger unit. My Huion A2 arrived today. I was a little concerned as the original packaging had some damage. Upon opening, the light box was in perfect condition. This is a game changing piece of hardware. Very pleased. Beautiful and smooth appearance. Love the light dimming option. Tons of real estate. My only complaint is that I wish the power adapter cord was a bit longer. Six feet sounds like a lot but I tend to move my A2 from vertical to horizontal. Another 2 feet would make all the difference in the world.

TLDR: Amazing product, definitely recommend. Wish the power cord was longer.

The illumination is wonderful and the thin compactness is a plus for porting it here and there.

I find the light pad to be a great addition to my working time drawing my graphics. I just wish again and again that the on/off switch was not on the front edge of the pad. I keep leaning on the edge with my arm and turning the light off.

LED Light Box for Tracing - New 2021 Model - Ultra Thin Light Pad with Adjustable Brightness. Comes with USB Cable, Adapter, Tracing Paper, and Clip. Portable Light Board for Sketching

Question & Answer

Question :

Would this be good for transfering art to watercolor paper? (would it shine well enough through watercolor paper)

Answer :

I placed a sheet of strathmore 140 lb watercolor paper over it and it went through without a problem. I then placed two sheets over it, and while the image wasn't as clear as on one sheet, it was still clear enough to trace the image.

Question :

What material is the surface made of? Can you use a razor blade on the surface?

Answer :

I love this light pad... however it's not a cutting surface material. I use another piece of glass on the top if I need to utilize it thatway. Plenty of light goes through. Hope this helps.

Question :

How many hours will this run? Is there a storage cover included?

Answer :

It's ratted at 50,000 hours. Ours burns 8 hours a day 3 days a week since March 1st. Since its side lighting you won't get any dark spots, or burned out sections. If a LED fails, then the whole thing fails. As for a case, there is nothing available for it from the maker. What I did with mine was to purchase a standard Art Portfolio a little bigger then the light tablet. It works great for me, and it's really sturdy so you won't break it all that easy. The only spot I'm fearful about is the plug in port for power, if that spot took a hard hit it would damage the plug port for sure. Just don't paclk it with the power plug in the port, and you will be just fine.

Question :

Anyone using this for flower photography?

Answer :

I bought it *specifically* for flower photography, of whole and dissected flowers.

I put the light pad flat on a table, then two short plastic containers (~8cm tall) on it, then a piece of non-reflective glass (from a local framing store) on the containers, then the flower on the glass. I use a couple of LED lights to light the flower face, camera on tripod, use live view, focus, & check exposure. Always use the camera's timer.

Photos brought into Photoshop, magic wand tool, check select subject, copy to new layer. Edit as needed. Can leave it with a transparent background or put a new background color into a new layer.

This light pad is a real timesaver over how I was doing this.

Question :

Can anyone recommend a specific bag for storage for this light pad?

Answer :

I store it in its (flimsy) poly bag and its box, using the foam corner inserts, using some elastic bands to keep it closed. A padded ripstop bag will last longer and be more compact, but I haven't seen one. OTOH, i haven't really looked very hard.

Question :

How useful is this for animation? Would it replace an animation disc? Is it possible to attach a pegbar to it?

Answer :

If you are crafty you could easily epoxy a peg bar to this, however, it won't replace the ease of moving your drawings the way you can with an animation disc. As far as attaching the peg bar, as far as I can tell this is just poured resin with led's embedded in the mold, so, that should be a snap.

Question :

Can you color in the pictures you draw?

Answer :

You are not supposed to draw on the board itself but on some tracing paper you put on top of the board - above some image that you want to trace. The other answers seem to miss the point. It’s absolutely not a product for drawing on to as it would wreck the surface. It works very well as a tracing gadget and doesn’t get hot while you work - which might be for a long time if the picture you are copying is complicated.

Question :

Can this be plugged into a projector for large wall drawing?

Answer :

This light box CANNOT load or display images. You can consider it as a translucent surface illuminated from behind, used for situations where a shape laid upon the surface needs to be seen with high contrast.
Hope this helps.

Question :

does it have grid on it?

Answer :

No Grid, just the the rulers printed at the edge in cm and mm

Question :

Can I use a regular pencil or pen on the light surface? Or a marker?

Answer :

I always use one of my drawing pencils, because I want my lines to be as thin as possible. As far as markers are concerned I've never tried them because if I make a mistake I can't correct it.
