MPMXPROA3US Near Perfect For Me
Manfrotto Xpro Monopod Plus Aluminum 3 Section, Black (MPMXPROA3US)
I am a very happy camper. Having severe peripheral neuropathy in both legs I needed a monopod that would also serve as cane/walking staff to help me get up and down and moving about. I was afraid 22lb (10kg) max load capacity of the Manfrotto MPMXPROA3US would be insufficient and the telescoping sections would collapse. That they did, but with the little plastic wrench provided the force on the section clamps can be adjusted. While increasing the clamp pressure makes them quite a bit more difficult to set and unset, the telescoping sections hold for me. I estimate I use at least 50lbs of force to get from a low sitting position to standing.
Of course the trade off for getting a 3 section monopod instead of a 4 or 5 section is that the collapsed length is a little longer. So if you need a shorter collapsed length for travel stowage this is not the monopod for you.
I wanted a three section monopod for two reasons:
1) In general each section is usually sturdier than a 4 or 5 section monopod
2) I don't like fooling around with a skinny 4th or 5th section. 3 sections are easier for me to deal with and adjust to the needed height.
Each section on this monopod is quite beefy but coming in at 24.69oz (= 1.54lb = 3.3kg) the Manfrotto MPMXPROA3US is comparable to the expensive, carbon fiber, three section, 23.63oz Gitzo GM4532 –
Gitzo GM4532 Series-4 Carbon eXact 3-Section Monopod
Possible drawback: The diameter of the handle is approximately 1-7/16 inch (3.65cm) and so may be unsuitable for folks with smaller hands.
Flaws:
1) The strap is stiff and worthless. The buckle weak and uncomfortable. Toss the strap and sew on a custom loop out a softer nylon or polyester strap material (without a buckle to dig into your hand). Manfrotto could take a lesson in strap design by checking out the Montem Ultra Strong Hiking / Walking / Trekking Poles –

2) The D shape of the top tube section appears in the molded handle making it a little uncomfortable to hold. I find that a circular handle without and flat section is more comfortable unless it is a molded fingers grip type like on the Montem Ultra Strong Hiking / Walking / Trekking Poles or some hand-held camera grips --

A matter pf preference: The handle material has next to no resilience. A softer handle would have made this much nicer to me. Other folks may prefer the secure feel of the Manfrotto solid molding.
Despite some minor flaws which can be easily forgiven, this monopod is outstanding in the 10kg (22lb) equipment weight class.
I highly recommend the Manfrotto MPMXPROA3US. Especially at the current bargain price of $66.38.

Dream monopod! Manfotto simplicity...
I had no idea a monopod would be this "perfect" - I have tried a few but they didn't feel right: top-heavy, too low, too many gadgets or camera did not feel secure.
This Manfrotto monopod is a joyful experience ...weighted perfectly at bottom. Solid, comfortable & great height option..heavier camera setup feels "welded" on this lovely Manfrotto. Easy to "swing" due to slight bottom weight - great build. It is not "lightweight", but the weight distribution in design make it feel much better than the actual weight listed. This model has the hidden tri-leg......they are skinny....but again strong & perfect for intended support.

Sturdy, well made monpod
It feels sturdy and strong but I never tested it because I ended up returning it since it doesn't work for the purpose I bought it. I bought it because of the screw threads on bottom, I wanted to use it with the monopod feet that I have. But it didn't work out because the screw threads are for a 14-20" screw and my monopod feet have a 3/8 screw.
I don't understand why companies make monopod feet with such small footprints and with fluid centers at the base. It's ridiculous and doesn't serve the purpose of keeping the monopod sturdy and preventing camera shake. That's why I didnt buy Manfrotto's feet for this monopod because the footprint is too small and it has a fluid ball in the center of the base. I wanted to use the monopod feet that I own because the footprint is nice and wide and it's very sturdy.

Love the clips, overall build is SOLID. EASY to use.
This item is FANTASTIC. I am so glad I chose this one as I was between another one and this. I love the clips on this one, it's so much easier and "locks" it more securely than the twist lock option alternatives out there. It's solid build, the top section with a nice handle on it, has some good size to it and makes me feel very confident in holding my large lens securely as I take photos. Solid buy, I would just simply but a second one of this if I needed 2, it's a no brainer.

This ia good alternative if you want to carry a camera with a fairly heavy lens.
I bought this with the Manfrotto 234RC Monopod Head Quick Release. It's a great little monopod and mount combination. Although it's almost as heavy as my carbon fiber tripod, it's a quick to deploy in the field for those quick shots with a heavy lens. It allows you to walk with the camera attached and with the leg fully extended.

Manfrotto as always delivers great quality
I have Manfrotto tripod, but needed monopod for event I was going to. After researching different options I decided to go with brand I know. This was a right choice, Manfrotto as always provided with great quality. Monopod is light and feels very sturdy. I used it for Canon EOS RP with EF 70-200 and monopod handled it very well.

Makes a difference............
I am not a professional but I take alot to pictures of 3 and soon to be 4 grandchildren who play soccer. It makes taking pictures with my Canon 5D Mark II and a 70-200mm 2.8 lens much easier. The monopod is sturdy and adds stability by supporting a very heavy lens. It is also compact and easy to move around.

Perfect
Been using this for about a year with a Sigma 150-600 zoom on a Nikon D90 body. Wonderful combination!! The tripod feet are really nice if you are in a fixed location. Collapses easily. Easy to carry the lens and camera body on the monopod. Very sturdy, nice construction. Very happy

Question & Answer
Question :
Will this stand on its own? How do the three prongs at the base fold up? Do you need to detach them?
Answer :
Yes. Stands on own but don't overload with weight at top and stabilize with hand during windy conditions. 3 prongs unfold when you unscrew from base and open up. Prongs stay attached to screw which easily collapses and inserts back into base of tube. Note length of monopod when completely collapsed. Longer than a Manfrotto travel tripod. Made very well and sturdy. I would not place heavy DSL with long lens on top unless you intend to stabilize with your hand. Highly recommended for its intended use but not a 100% replacement of my Manfrotto tripod...I use them for different purposes. Specifically I use the monopod with legs for 360° spherical photography to reduce the size of the nadir image of the 360° camera.
Question :
How do i connect the mpmxproa4us monopod to my fluidtech monopod base? monopod base isn't threaded and base bolt too short...
Answer :
On the MPMXPROA3US, you remove the monopod's screw-in tip and attach the fluidtech base. The base has a plastic hex-head that seats in the monopod base.
Question :
Does this monopod (mpmxproa4us) come with the legs, or do i have to purchase it separately?
Answer :
You need to purchase leg separately. There is a combo optio i found that has both and is cheaper than purchasing both separately.
Question :
Is this strong enough to use as a jib with lightweight gimbal?
Answer :
Yes it is
Question :
Does this work with a quick release plate for the induro ballhead?
Answer :
There is a 1/4" - 3/8" screw on top of the monopod. If your quick release plate accepts this common camera thread it should work.
Question :
I want buy only strap
Answer :
Buy only its strap? Maybe you should ask Manfrotto if they sell it.
Question :
Does it come with the feet?
Answer :
The monopod comes with the screw on foot shown
Question :
Is it strong enough to use as a walking stick too?
Answer :
I own the the 3 section version and use it as a walking stick, so the 4 section version is probably strong enough too.
Question :
How high does the 5 section extend?
Answer :
Its u
In the description, 70.8 inches
Question :
How high does the 4 section extend?
Answer :
I have the aluminum version MPMXPROA4US. With all sections extended it stands about 70 inches or 5' 10". The carbon fiber version is about 64 to 65 inches in height.
