Solid and inexpensive (but not cheap); Arca Swiss foot
First, I just want to address that this product is intended for the Canon 70-300mm F4-5.6L IS USM, and it fits that lens just fine. Other reviewers complaining about it being too big/small have either a) not fitted it to the right lens, or b) unfortunately received the wrong product.
That said, there clearly have been some revisions to this product over time, as the product I received varies a bit from the item depicted (mostly in good ways, and certainly nothing that affects its use/function negatively).
To start, the black padding/flocking on the interior of the tripod collar isn't black nor is it soft. Instead, there's a clear, glossy plastic that runs the interior with something slightly squishy underneath (could well be just the adhesive layer holding the glossy plastic ring in place). Wouldn't be my preference, but it serves the purpose just fine and allows the collar to spin when loosened without causing any undue scratching to the lens barrel, and it also holds position nice and firm when clamped down.
Second, the actual tripod foot is better than what's depicted in that it actually has the standard Arca Swiss-style grooves cut into the foot itself. This a really nice feature, and I wish all tripod collars/feet had it, as it saves having to add an additional plate for most people. Honestly, they should update the photos, because that alone makes it a worth upgrade to the Canon option (even if it weren't egregiously priced). It even comes with the additional stop screws (and allen key to install) to limit how far the plate slide/travel when partially clamped in a compatible base.
Everything else is as you'd expect it. Color match is definitely very close, but not quite perfect; from a distance you'd never notice, but up close (and under the right light) you can tell, but if that sort of thing bothers you, you're probably not considering this third party option. Same goes for the textured finish of the metal - it's close, but not an exact match.
Construction is simple cast aluminum and it's very solid. The one place they could improve is the pin at the hinge, as there's some extra wobble/play when opening and closing, but once you've secured it closed around the lens barrel there's no play. Likewise, the knurled thumb screw doesn't have the push-lock safety mechanism like the official Canon collars to keep it from coming off if it's unintentionally loosened - but again, hardly a deal breaker and a very sensible cost-saving measure. And as long as you check that it's tight every so often (though mine's not showing any signs of loosening on its own), it's fine.
And that's it. Solid, reasonably well-made, and actually pretty feature rich - especially compared to the Canon option. I'd honestly prefer one of these for my 70-200mm just for the better tripod foot. Just make sure you've got the right foot/collar for your lens and you're golden.

Works perfectly
I am a pro photographer shooting with Canon equipment and I misplaced my collar for a Canon 28mm-300L series lens. This is a very heavy lens and normally requires a mono or tripod or some sort of mount for use of this lens. Well mine was gone and I needed something equivalent and I needed it fast. Amazon had this mount for less than $25.00. It attaches exactly the same as the original ( which cost $98.00 from Canon). I still have my original equipment for a 70mm-200mmL series and you cannot tell the difference in the beside the color of the locking knob. Color!!! Who cares? It works like the original. Save your money and buy this item. It arrived in two days and saved me $78.00. What a deal.

Solidly built, fits perfectly, works great.
No, there's nothing cheap about this tripod ring except the price. It fits my lens perfectly and works great. Fit and finish can't be faulted. The only thing it lacks is that famous brand name, but you have to pay ten times more for that. This is the tripod collar for folks who like to save money without cutting corners.

Tripod Mount Ring C (WII) for Canon 70-300mm f/4-5.6L
I purchased this Tripod Mount Ring to be used on my Canon 70-300mm f/4-5.6L lens. I was a little skeptical that an item priced in this range could be sturdy enough to be trusted holding my $1500 lens, but I figured if it's junk I just return it. Well I've got to say,it has surpassed my most optimistic expectations. The metal is very nicely tooled and well designed, sturdy, but not too heavy and it's edges are nice and smooth No sharp edges as one of the other reviewers described. There is a nice pad that has been attached to the inter mounting surface to protect the lens and provide a anti-slip surface. The mounting ring easily and securely attaches to the lens barrel. Even the color is a perfect match...what else could you want? If your stuck on having ancillary camera equipment sporting a name brand logo then by all means buy the Canon version at B&H or Calumet for $189, but if your interested in creating quality images and want to invest you money where it counts, check this item out, you won't regret it.

Solid build. Fit lens perfectly. Great alternative to branded version.
Not exactly sure what the branded version of this would bring to the table, but this piece was solid. Fit the Canon 70-300MM perfectly. Easy to attach/detach. Fairly light weight. Worked perfectly with my tri-pod. Not much more I can say, but I found it to be a great value.

Looks and works correctly.
This looks just like the white Canon lens in color and design. Others complain about it not fitting snug enough which is not true of the one I received. This fits perfectly and there is no play or movement between it and the lens. I suppose if it doesn't fit snugly you could just put piece of two sided tape around it. In any case I'm completely satisfied especially at this price point. I don't know in what way a more expensive one would be better. This is a solid product.

The Real Deal for a Real Price
This tripod mount clamps securely on the Canon EF 70-300 mm f/4-5.6L on the clear space between the distance scale and the focusing ring. With the tripod mount pointed back toward the camera as recommended, the tripod mounting holes provide an excellent balance point for the lens mounted on an EOS 5D Mark II, and thus on all the high-end Canon cameras. With the Rebel series, the lesser weight of the camera should not affect the effectiveness of the tripod mount location; it should still be quite good, although I'll leave the definitive opinion of use with Rebels because I don't have a Rebel on hand to try this. Tripod Mount Ring C (WII) for Canon 70-300mm f/4-5.6L
Things that I have observed include:
a) The finish of this tripod mount is gray baked-on finish or powder-coating that is an excellent match to the lens color and finish. The three main components of the tripod mount are all machined aluminum, and the thumbscrew used for mounting or rotating the tripod mount is steel.
b) There are two tripod mounting holes, one each for standard and large tripod mount screws. The larger one is to the rear, where its position will better balance the heavier professional cameras.
c) Because of the excellent IS of the EF 70-300 mm f/4-5.6L, you will rarely need a tripod mount, which is likely the reason that Canon does not include one with the lens. But, if you want to shoot top-notch HDR or other multiple exposures or long exposures, a tripod or at least a good monopod is a must, and the lens tripod mount balances the camera-lens combination with a far stabler and better-balanced grip than the tripod mount on the camera bottom. Without a lens-attached tripod mount that balances the lens-camera assembly, small portable tripods and monopods are of limited use for slow shutter speeds and are almost useless for time exposures.
d) This tripod mount has rounded edges and a padded lens contact surface that is visible as the black inside of the mount in the product photo. This mount can be attached and rotated at will and leave absolutely no marks on the lens. I have seen reviews on other lens-attached tripod mounts that don't have the padding or rounding that a reviewer says chipped the finish on their lens. Not so for this tripod mount.
e) There is an index line engraved lightly on the top of this tripod mount that is not visible in the photo. You align this with the distance mark on the focus scale to level the camera in the tripod mount for the normal or landscape orientation. If you like to rotate the camera 90 degrees for a portrait orientation, or you use a tripod on a non-level surface, you might want to include a small bubble level in your camera bag and use it to adjust the camera bottom to vertical or horizontal. If you have a quick-release tripod mount with a bubble level, leave it on the camera bottom.
There are only two downsides for this product:
1) It's not a genuine Canon product, and thus doesn't have the red Canon logo etched on the side.
2) It's shipped by postal services from China, which takes a while to get to home delivery in the USA.
When you look at these things, they don't seem important because this is clearly a high-quality product that will be of use for as many years as the lens. And, the price reflects the small-business cost as compared to the far, far higher cost of a low-volume high-quality product in the Canon manufacture/storage/shipping supply chain.

This is the biggest bargain on Amazon - I am blown away!
I recently bought the new Canon 70-300 L lens and think it's one heck of a fantastic optic. It may make me leave my favorite 70-200 F:2.8 lens home when I go out for day time shooting. However, when I priced the tripod collar that Canon sells, I nearly fell off my chair. The darn thing is over $200. Crazy! Because this Chinese version is about 1/10 the price of the Canon unit, I decided that I had to try it. All I can say is "wow!" it fits perfectly. It works exactly like the collars on all of my other Canon lenses - that is to say, just fine. It feels rock solid and I can't see how the Canon unit could be 10 times better.
Got this new Canon lens? Give this tripod collar a try. it's an amazing bargain.

Not Canon but it works for 15% of the price
I wanted a tripod ring to hold the 70-300 mm l lens. The Canon ring is crazy prIced and I didn't want to spend $150+ for something that won't get used much. This one was a bargain and its works fine. The screw is a little rough but it looks and feels like oem. The holder is all metal and very well built. I recommend this item. Shipping took 2 weeks, much faster than the original estimate.

Fits my 70-300 like a glove...
I haven't 'balanced' it... but I did attach it to the lens and align it with the alignment notch mark on the lens (see photo(s)).

Question & Answer
Question :
I just recevied my tripod ring and I cant tell if its missing the black felt on the inside of the collar or is there a protective film om the felt?
Answer :
There isn't any 'felt' on the collar. There is a built-in black 'rubbery' (material unknown) lining on the inside surface which would give a little bit of friction and would prevent any scratching between the collar and the lens neck.
Question :
will this work with my Tamron sp 70-300 with an 81.5 outer diameter?
Answer :
Hi there - I dont use Tamron. But I have now measured the inner diameter of the ring - and it is 80,0 mm. From this diameter we can calculate the circumference that fits to the ring: Circumference is diameter x pi = 80,0mm x 3,1416 = 251 mm. So - if your lense has this circumference - or slightly les than that - it would fit.
Best regards
Question :
Will this work with the canon ef 70-300mm f/4-5.6 is ii usm lens?
Answer :
Question :
Will this work on a 300mm f4?
Answer :
I bought it for my 70-300. Go ahead and try it. Return it if it doesn’t fit. I broke the original by overtightening
Question :
Will this work with Canon 28-300mm lens?
Answer :
If the advertised specs say so, well that would be encouraging. In any case check the specs, which I see as " Ring inner diameter: 81.5mm, Ring width: 18mm, Ring thickness: 4.5-8mm." Wrap a narrow strip of thin piece of paper around the attachment area on the lens (I assume you have it already!), and mark with a pencil where the paper laps the end of the strip. Now measure and compare with the circumference of 81.5mm diameter, ie 256.0mm. Check the width of the space for collar.
It worked fine for my 70-300 lens.
Question :
Will this fit the Canon EF 75-300mm lense?
Answer :
This will only fit Canon 70-300mm f/4-5.6L. The most important is the L model.
Question :
Will this fit the Canon ef 75-300? If not, do you guys have one that will?
Answer :
DSLRKIT RING C (W) II, as the description for this item will fit a Canon 70-300 EF. A Canon 75-300 EF will take a different collar. I don't know the model number for that item.
Question :
My collar doesnt have the black padding is there a protective film on it or is it missing?
Answer :
If it's color black and shiny yes it has both.
Question :
Will this fit a nikon 77mm lens (18-300mm)?
Answer :
I doubt it. It's specifically made for a canon lens and the fit is very precise. There's isn't any room for adjusting it beyond tightening it on the canon barrel.
Question :
Will work with Canon 85mm 1.2/f?
Answer :
I haven't a clue, esp. as I do not have that lens. However, when I bought my clone tripod collar I paid VERY close attention to the diameter/circumference of the collar as well as other dimensions. To this day I am happy with the result. It doesn't work quite a smoothly as Canon's would, BUT it was available and way below Canon's lofty prices.
